SAN LUIS POTOSI, Mexico

Custom compounder Preferred Compounding de Mexico is continuing to invest in equipment, people and space to stay ahead of strong demand at its facility in San Luis Potosi. The company has brought online a second Farrel F-270 black mixer and in-line gear pump strainer, begun construction on 15,000 square feet of inventory and office space and is hiring salaried and hourly employees.

Scott Lieberman, general manager for Preferred Compounding de Mexico and vice president of strategic initiatives for Preferred Compounding, said total employment in Mexico will be nearly 100 people by the beginning of winter.

“We expected robust growth for this operation and are continuing to invest to stay ahead of it,” he said. “We’re now approaching the same capacity and employment range of the other Preferred locations while delivering the same quality, customer service and partnering programs.”

Preferred Compounding de Mexico provides custom compounds and services primarily to the Mexican operations of US, Asian and European parts manufacturers. Value-added services include flexible supply and materials agreements, compound development, improvement and testing resources and the company’s MixLoc™ Quality Program, which includes 24/7 online access to quality data and more.

“Like everywhere we operate, we take a custom approach to serving customers,” Lieberman said. “Customers appreciate that we treat each of them individually.”

Preferred purchased the 66,000 square foot facility from a Spanish company three years ago and immediately ordered and installed the first Farrel F-270, which came online in early winter 2013. The ISO 9001:2008 certified facility currently mixes black compounds.

Preferred Compounding de Mexico is a wholly owned subsidiary of Barberton, Ohio-based Preferred Compounding. Preferred currently makes black compounds in Ohio, Tennessee, Georgia and Mexico, and color compounds in Ohio and Georgia. Mesabi Mix Vision is used as a common production control platform across all locations.
