MagneMotion, Tek-Matic, and Accelerated Machine Design and Engineering Collaborate on a New Flexible Platform for Industrial Product Assembly

October 22, 2015 | By Business Wire News

DEVENS, Mass.

MagneMotion, Inc., a leading manufacturer of intelligent conveyor systems powered by linear synchronous motor (LSM) technology, is working with Tek-Matic and Accelerated Machine Design and Engineering to create a new platform for industrial product assembly utilizing MagneMotion’s QuickStick motor.

The flexible system offers the traditional benefits of MagneMotion’s QuickStick LSM system, including a flexible, fast and efficient alternative to traditional pallet conveyors with increased production capacity and low cost of ownership. In addition, the non-synchronous system reduces tooling costs, and increases reliability by reducing the number of moving parts and tooling stations needed in the system.

“This collaboration supports our growth strategy within the growing assembly automation industry,” said MagneMotion CEO Todd Webber. “We are excited to work with AMD&E and Tek-Matic to help manufacturers improve their operations by providing a flexible alternative to traditional fixed chassis indexers to improve efficiencies, reliability, and productivity.”

The new platform is easily expanded with the addition of pallets and track sections to meet future product and production needs. This flexibility provides downstream benefits for an end-user that needs to expand to keep up with production needs.

The chassis has been optimized using Finite Element Analysis to provide a rigid and vibration-free foundation for the assembly automation platform. The precision-machined top deck provides a flat mounting surface for customers to directly mount process equipment, saving floor space, and reducing capital equipment costs by eliminating frame work for things like automation stations and process equipment.

AMD&E has contributed its Precision Under-Pallet Support (PUPS™) System to the project, providing precision locating for applications that require tight repeatability specs, allowing for heavy process loads and shock loads at each station. The PUPS system is modular and can be positioned anywhere along the linear travel sections. It is equipped with pallet-present sensors that can be used for overall process control.

“Our precision assembly automation platform provides a simple and elegant solution for conveying material in an oval arrangement,” said Mark Tingley, President of AMD&E. “Coupled with MagneMotion’s technology, we are able to provide our manufacturing clients the solutions they need.”

Tek-Matic is a provider of automation solutions and technologies for a variety of industries, including life science, military electronics and industrial automation. “This solution takes the already flexible and intelligent MagneMotion QuickStick LSM conveying solution and customizes it to meet customer needs for a variety of payloads, cycle requirements and track layouts,” said Tek-Matic’s Vice President of Solution Design and Sales, Mike Muldowney.

In addition to the tight 500mm radius, programmable acceleration and velocity control allows fine tuning of the parameters on the turnaround section, ensuring that the payload remains on the pallets with minimal or no restraining hardware. The pallets can be custom configured for user-specific features, and the integrated control system is modular and compatible with the leading PLC’s and CNC’s.

MagneMotion will be appearing at The Assembly Show in Rosemont, IL from October 27-29th in booth 1818.
