American Society of Safety Engineers Media Alert

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) will host a joint press conference to discuss the findings of a co-authored report that concludes workers who are Hispanic, young and work for small construction firms likely face greater occupational safety and health challenges than almost any other employee segment or industry in the United States.

WHO:

Christine Branche, principal associate director of NIOSH and Patricia Ennis, president of ASSE, will discuss findings from the report, “Overlapping Vulnerabilities: The occupational health and safety of young immigrant workers in small construction firms.”

WHAT:

The 30-minute press conference will explore the safety concerns raised in the report, followed by a question and answer session with Branche, Ennis and authors of the report. Spanish-speaking spokespeople will be available for Spanish-language media.

Following the press conference, ASSE will host a Symposium on American’s At-Risk Workers with the participation of representatives from OSHA, NIOSH, the Association of Union Constructors, the Small Business Administration, the National Roofing Contractors Association, and the International Window Cleaning Association.
