The University of Toronto chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) recently showcased projects it has undertaken to help people in developing countries gain access to the technology they need to improve their lives.

U of T Engineering students have EWB internships in Zambia, Bolivia, Peru and India. Projects have included improving a town’s water system, constructing a hammer mill to grind maize at a refugee camp, and developing a website and databases to link NGOs dedicated to social development issues.

The event was part of the first annual Engineers Without Borders Day — a national celebration planned by the Canadian charity in March 2003 for each of its 21 chapters across the country.
