Westinghouse Fleet Expands with TVA’s Watts Bar Unit 2

June 28, 2016 | By Business Wire News

PITTSBURGH

Westinghouse Electric Company today applauded Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for their startup of the Watts Bar Unit 2 reactor, the seventh operating reactor in its nuclear fleet.

“We congratulate TVA on their two recent Unit 2 milestones—initial criticality and grid sync—as they progress to full-power operations to serve the people of the Tennessee Valley. In support of the nuclear unit’s startup, Westinghouse leveraged its diverse capabilities including engineering, licensing, fuel, construction and plant services,” said Mark Marano, Westinghouse president, Americas and EMEA Regions.

Westinghouse teamed with Watts Bar employees to help move the project forward by involving more than 600 people across multiple disciplines and specialties in support of the new unit.

“Westinghouse is committed to supporting the operating fleet and the entire plant lifecycle,” added Marano. “The new Watts Bar unit will provide safe, clean, reliable electricity to the Tennessee Valley for decades to come, and like the plant itself, Westinghouse will be there for the long run.”

TVA’s Watts Bar Unit 2, a Westinghouse PWR 1,150 MW reactor located near Spring City, Tenn., is the first new nuclear unit to come online in the U.S. in more than two decades.
