Smithers Apex is pleased to announce that the 19th annual Met Coke World Summit will return to Pittsburgh, PA in 2015. Taking place October 27-29, MetCoke 2015 will provide a platform for business leaders and decision makers in the coke, coal, and steel industry to discuss leading technologies, environmental forces, political landscapes and challenges currently facing the market. SunCoke Energy, ArcelorMittal, Teck Coal Limited, Dorchester Energy and Patriot Steel are just a few of the key players who will be taking part in discussions at Pittsburgh’s Omni William Penn Hotel.

The 2015 Met Coke World Summit will kick off with a keynote presentation by Terry Hale, Former Senior Vice President of Patriot Coal Sales. Terry will provide insight and in-depth analysis of the global coal trade, while assessing the international powerhouses in the metallurgical coke production and how government regulations play a role in a country’s competitiveness in the market.

Attendees will also hear from Wood Mackenzie, Koppers Industries, Inc, Teck Coal Limited and Hatch Ltd., on regulatory challenges facing the coke industry; global financial vision with the supply and demand market drivers; stressors to the traditional coke making industry; the future of the steel industry and technical innovations in cokemaking.

“As the industry continues to face certain challenges, it is more important than ever to stay engaged with current trends and be at the forefront of new information affecting the coal, coke and steel industries. MetCoke 2015 will provide an excellent forum for delivering expert and timely content on the changing world markets. With the conference coinciding with the ending of Q3 and the beginning of Q4 reporting cycles, we are able to provide attendees with the most up to date forecasts in the industry as well as the opportunity to meet with contacts from almost every sector of the MetCoke world,” said Andrew Smaha, conference director for Smithers Apex. “As we continue to watch the Met Coke World Summit succeed year after year, we are thrilled to have the support of industry stakeholders such as Ingram Barge Company, Xcoal Energy & Resources, Robindale Energy & Associated Companies and Blaschak Coal.”

Immediately following the conclusion of the conference, delegates will have the opportunity to tour the ArcelorMittal Monessen plant, a conventional coke plant producing very high quality coke and related carbon by-products. Monessen recently underwent a renovation, which modernized and upgraded the facility, while enhancing environmental performance and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the operations. Conference attendees may attend the tour for an additional fee.

This year’s conference is co-chaired by Dr. Neil J. Bristow, Principal/Managing Consultant, H&W Worldwide Consulting Pty Ltd and Dr. John F. Quanci, Vice President of Engineering and Technology at SunCoke Energy. Joining them on the advisory board are Jorge Caldeira, Manager Technical Marketing, Jellinbah Group; Cam Howey, Global Manager Technical Marketing, Teck Coal Limited; Cyril Martinand, Division Manager – Procurement – Solid Fuels, ArcelorMittal USA LLC and Tim Wojtowicz, President, Dorchester Energy.
