SAN FRANCISCO

SFMade Week celebrating San Francisco’s vibrant manufacturing sector South of Market – SoMa – kicks off Tues., May 5 with the “Print Your A@$ Off: Low Tech Meets High Tech” party, hosted by social enterprise, Social Imprints.

A full-service printing and promotions venture with its “Brand With Purpose” motto, Social Imprints welcomes the public to experience first-hand traditional screen printing by making T-shirts and touring their new state-of-the-art SoMa facility at 969 Folsom St. from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event is catered by Local Mission Market with music by The Ferocious Few.

Proceeds from $10 tickets (available on Eventbrite) benefit SF Made, a nonprofit organization that helps to build and support the vibrant manufacturing sector in San Francisco.

Co-founder and CEO Jeff Sheinbein will also share insights as an industry leader at the event, highlighting his open-book-democratic business model and mission: provide a living wage through professional employment to people transitioning from drug dependency, economic hardship and incarceration as well as active military duty. Co-founder and Business Development Manager, Kevin McCraken exemplifies their mission, overcoming heroin addiction and ultimately become Sheinbein’s business partner.

Mayor Ed Lee and officials from the Office of Economic and Workforce Development recently toured Social Imprints, praising their diversity and contribution to invigorating the area. City officials and business leaders are expected to attend the open house.

Social Imprints has been in the thick of the tech boom and SF startup scene since its 2008 launch. They received San Francisco Weekly’s prestigious “Startup of the Year” award and were named Bloomberg Businessweek’s “Social Entrepreneur of the Year” in 2011.While catering to the ever-changing, expedited business needs of their tech neighbors, they go beyond a typical vendor relationship with popular community-building T-shirt printing parties.

“T-shirts are a big part of tech culture. It’s like giving the proverbial finger to traditional, more conservative companies that require a dress code,” said Sheinbein.

The business recently relocated to the site of Columbia Mechanical Contractors Company, whose landlords support the importance of keeping manufacturing jobs in SoMa.

“We’ve benefited by being here where many of our clients have also planted roots,” said Sheinbein. “We are growing, and the more revenue we create, the more jobs we can create.”
