As Europe sees some stability with a September paraxylene contract being agreed relatively early in the month and this yields a PTA price for September of Euro645-684 a ton. Overall the market was relatively flat although there is the prospect that balances may tighten if Artlant restarts in the near future. There are PTA shutdowns at most major European producers in late Q3/Q4 which could see PTA supply tightening.
European MEG contract price was confirmed at Euro851 a ton, a reduction of Euro135 a ton DDP on August. Spot MEG prices have been under gradual pressure all month despite limited imports since market volumes are thin and the coolant producers are still waiting on the sidelines. October may see milder dip in MEG and PTA numbers and this may drive PET cost down.
