ProNova introduces one-room, expandable proton therapy solution

October 17, 2015 | By Business Wire News

MARYVILLE, Tenn.

ASTRO Booth #250—ProNova Solutions announced today the development of the Compact SC360 One-Room Solution, a treatment system with full 360-degree gantry angle and advanced imaging capabilities designed to accommodate new proton therapy centers with easy, cost-effective expansion as demand for service grows.

The 2,800-square-foot solution, which has a 45 percent smaller footprint than other compact systems in the marketplace, will include ProNova’s superconducting 360-degree gantry and SC isochronous cyclotron. The systems will feature pencil-beam scanning and will be outfitted with CBCT and Fan Beam CT imaging technology along with an advanced workflow system.

The SC360 is available in two configurations—a smaller version for one-room-only treatment centers and a second designed for the construction of additional treatment rooms without the need to install accelerators for each new unit. The first systems will be ready for deployment in 2018.

“Once again, ProNova stands as a leader in innovative technology for delivery of protons to cancer patients. This new system provides a lower cost solution for centers wanting to start with one treatment room and grow with patient demand,” said Joe Matteo, president of ProNova Solutions. “The compact system combined with all the technological benefits of our larger system makes the Compact SC360 system the ‘best of both worlds.’”

ProNova Solutions was founded in 2012 for the purpose of developing a more nimble, lower-cost, technologically advanced proton therapy treatment system. Leveraging its founders’ past experience in the development and global commercialization of PET and PET/CT technology, ProNova utilizes proprietary, superconducting technology to build smaller, lighter proton therapy gantries and cyclotrons at less cost than competing systems.

Provision announced earlier this year the development of a three-room proton therapy center in Franklin, TN, in partnership with Scott Hamilton and his CARES Foundation. Hamilton recently presented a talk on proton therapy at the TEDxKC event in Kansas City.

“The purpose of starting ProNova was to develop accessible, economical, state-of-the-art solutions for making proton therapy available across the country and around the world,” said Terry Douglass, ProNova Chairman and CEO and Chairman of its parent company, Provision Healthcare. “Because of our commitment and capabilities, we now have established partnerships for new proton centers in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, China, Singapore and in the U.S.that will help make this lifesaving cancer treatment available to those who need it.”

About ProNova Solutions, LLC

A division of Provision Healthcare, ProNova is committed to making proton therapy accessible to a greater number of patients and physicians worldwide. Founded by the leaders of CTI Molecular Imaging, ProNova’s team brought positron emission tomography (PET) technology out of the laboratory and made it a clinical reality for millions of cancer patients. The team’s early work revolutionized cancer diagnostics and helped to develop an industry with over 350 cyclotrons, more than 3,000 PET & PET/CT systems and 160 PET radiopharmaceutical distribution centers installed around the world today. The same team is redefining cancer treatment once again with the introduction of the SC360 proton therapy system and the compact SC360 proton therapy system.
