ITT’s 2015 Golden Gear Academy Kicks Off in Shanghai

By Business Wire News

ITT Corp. (NYSE:ITT) announced today that its China team recently kicked off the 2015 ITT Golden Gear Academy at Tongji University in Shanghai. As an education and talent development platform for the Chinese engineering and manufacturing industry, the event attracted Tongji University students majoring in automotive studies, rail transit, electronics, and information and mechanical engineering.

On opening day, professors and experts from Tongji University, China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) and ITT China shared best practices and discussed industry trends to broaden students’ viewpoints and inspire their thinking around the latest market developments. Academy students will also team up to participate in an Innovation Competition, applying their knowledge to develop new ideas and proposals. Outstanding students will have the opportunity to earn awards and internship opportunities at ITT.

“ITT has a century-long history and as a leader in the engineering industry, we want to help discover and cultivate excellent engineering talent and equip them with a strategic perspective and innovation mindset,” said Victoria Creamer, Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer, ITT Corporation. “We are excited to sponsor the Golden Gear Academy. It provides an opportunity for us to leverage leading technologies and best practices to help develop the next generation of engineers, and for students to share new ideas and perspectives with us.”

Davide Barbon, General Manager of ITT’s Motion Technologies business in China, said, “Young engineers who can advance with the industry are key to the industry’s sustainable development, and there is a great need for innovative talent with both strong knowledge and skills. Apart from a solid theoretical foundation, a platform that helps future engineers grasp industry trends, puts their knowledge into practice and inspires bold thinking is crucial in addressing the needs of today’s talent market.”

Professor Wu Qidi, former Deputy Minister of Education, said in an earlier seminar with ITT regarding university-enterprise cooperation, “Joint talent cultivation between universities and enterprises is a very long process, in which ITT could give support in program development, teaching and lecturing, as well as offering instruction on graduation design and innovative activities in order to uplift the value of outstanding engineers with universities in China.”

During the seminar, both ITT and Tongji University agreed that university-enterprise cooperation is very important to successful talent cultivation as platforms such as ITT’s Golden Gear Academy can play a significant role in enhancing their perspective and inspiring their future development.
