First Annual Methane Bioengineering Summit To Be Held September 1

July 14, 2015 | By Business Wire News

MENLO PARK, Calif.

Calysta, Inc. (www.calysta.com) today announced it will be lead sponsor of the first annual Methane Bioengineering Summit, scheduled for Sept. 1 in San Diego, CA.

Researchers throughout the world are discovering new uses for methane, a major component of natural gas and a high-potential, sustainable source of energy. Prominent academic, industry and government leaders will explore emerging applications for this low-cost, widely-available feedstock in practical, scalable industrial and consumer products beyond petroleum.

The Methane Bioengineering Summit will include sessions ranging from government policy drivers to methanotroph biology and gas fermentation to commercial production of methane. It will lead off the three-day Sustainable Chemicals & Plastics Adoption & Applications Summit, September 1-3. The event will be presented by Infocast, the leading business intelligence and events producer in the biobased chemicals industry.

“Methane is emerging as a significant source of sustainable new products from industrial plastics to feed for livestock and aquaculture,” said Josh Silverman, Ph.D., Calysta Chief Technology Officer. “The United States has more than 100 years supply of methane, available from multiple sources including municipal and commercial waste and agriculture. Calysta is pleased to be partnering with Infocast to bring together thought leaders in methane biology, technology development and public policy to advance discoveries in this critical field.”
