EIC Provides Custom Narcotic Cooling Enclosure for DC Fire

WARMINSTER, Pa.

EIC Solutions, Inc., a leading manufacturer of thermoelectric air conditioners and electronic enclosures, recently provided a secure, temperature controlled enclosure for DC Fire to house narcotics. When temperatures inside of the secure box exceed the drug’s storage temperature, the narcotics must be discarded, which lead to a need for a cooling system. The enclosure was designed to protect the vital drugs first responders use to stabilize patients until they reach the hospital.

After 30 days of rigorous testing in the field, DC Fire was so pleased with the proposed solution that they decided to implement it and install it throughout their entire ambulance fleet of 32 vehicles. This will be serving as the beta site for first response vehicles nationwide.

The custom narcotic enclosure cooling system that EIC Solutions, Inc. developed in conjunction with Pro Tech Systems provided sufficient space to store drugs, as well as integrated security controls. “Immediately we recognized DC Fire’s need for a custom solution,” said Lori Galdo, an EIC sales engineer. “The collaborative effort between our engineering and sales teams resulted in a completely new design that exceeded the customer’s specifications.”

The flush mounted, compact 6.7”H x 4”W product featured a cooling capacity capable of up to 20F Delta T with a custom condensation management system and a drain line that extended outside of the ambulance. A 12 VDC- powered the cooling system, only drawing 4 amps.
