EBSCO Showing Its Commitment to Growth with Several Recent Moves

July 1, 2015 | By Business Wire News

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.

EBSCO Industries (EBSCO), headquartered atop Oak Mountain off Highway 280, is a privately held company committed to progress and growth.

Owning 24 diverse businesses, the largest of which is EBSCO Information Services, EBSCO Industries continues to demonstrate a commitment to growth and expansion, having acquired two significant businesses in the library services space; YBP Library Services and Learning Express, and a majority interest in a third business, All Current Electrical Sales, within the past five months.

“EBSCO Information Services (EIS) continues to experience growth and, thankfully, is well positioned to see that continue,” said Tim Collins, EBSCO’s President and CEO. “We are very pleased that we were able to add YBP Library Services, the leading book supplier to academic libraries worldwide, and Learning Express, a growing provider of test preparation and career development materials, to EIS. Both businesses add to our product offerings for libraries and have significant organic growth opportunity. We are also pleased that All Current has joined the EBSCO family of businesses. This represents a new platform for EBSCO, which we plan to grow aggressively over the coming years.”

EBSCO employs almost 6,000 people worldwide in a variety of industries requiring expertise in fields ranging from technology and customer service, to sales and marketing.

“Continuous improvement isn’t just something we talk about at EBSCO, it’s something we are focused on every single day, in every area of our organization,” said Collins. “We look for all possible opportunities to improve what we do. And, we make tough decisions about where to focus resources and where to invest. A critical component of managing a portfolio of businesses is to constantly evaluate performance and fit.”

On June 29, 2015, EBSCO Industries announced to employees that it intends to sell one of its oldest businesses, EBSCO Media. EBSCO Media, originally Hartsfield Printing Company, was acquired in 1948 to supply personalized stationery to the armed forces. The printing industry has seen significant consolidation in recent years due to changing market conditions.

“Rapidly changing technology and explosive digital growth has contributed to unprecedented pressure in the printing industry for many years,” said Bryson Stephens, Group President, EBSCO. “While we have not yet finalized a buyer, we see a successful sale as the best possible outcome for the business, our employees and our customers.”
