The Biopesticide Industry Alliance (BPIA) celebrated its 15th anniversary in September with a visit to Congress and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) followed by a semi-annual meeting in Washington, DC. The meeting was marked by record attendance and a growing membership base now approaching 100 member companies.

BPIA’s new Executive Director, Keith Jones, and several biopesticide company executives conducted a seminar for Congressional staff about the current regulatory framework for biopesticides used in both conventional and organic agriculture. Following a series of meetings with key House and Senate Agriculture Committee members and EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs, BPIA held a successful semi-annual meeting and toasted the organization’s fifteen years of steady progress and achievement.

“The biopesticide industry has almost unlimited growth potential,” said Jones as he addressed the meeting attendees. “As this incredibly exciting industry continues to expand, BPIA will continue to develop right along with it to support our increasing number of members and the role they will play in the future of agriculture, public health, and forest health in the U.S. and around the world.”

With an executive director now based in the Washington, DC area, a top priority for the association will be keeping Congress and the EPA informed about the growing biopesticide industry, which is creating American jobs and providing growers and others with innovative and sustainable pest management and crop enhancement solutions.
