Amcor Rigid Plastics, Evangelical Homes of Michigan Introduce Going Green Delivery Program

October 16, 2015 | By Business Wire News

ANN ARBOR, Mich.

Amcor Rigid Plastics is partnering with Evangelical Homes of Michigan to support new sustainable packaging for chef-prepared, home-delivered meals to Washtenaw County seniors.

The sustainable packaging is part of Evangelical Homes of Michigan’s Going Green Delivery program, which will provide daily frozen meals to homebound seniors in partnership with the Saline Senior Center and the Area Agency on Aging 1-B.

Amcor Rigid Plastics awarded a $21,000 Amcor Community Program grant to Evangelical Homes of Michigan in May to support Going Green Delivery program packaging for meals that are prepared by Morrison Community Living.

The grant also supports the purchase of a blast chiller/freezer for Evangelical Homes of Michigan to store the frozen meals as well as microwaves for seniors who may need them to heat their meals.

“We’re pleased to work closely with Evangelical Homes of Michigan to improve the quality of life for local seniors,” said Michael Hodges, Amcor Rigid Plastics director of communications and public relations. “This strong partnership symbolizes our ongoing commitment to keep food products safe and promote responsible packaging in our neighboring communities.”

Evangelical Homes of Michigan also will deliver frozen holiday meals in sustainable packaging to seniors starting in late November and December.

“These sustainable meal containers will allow seniors to participate in an environmentally friendly program while receiving freshly prepared, nutritious meals prepared by our executive chef,” said Denise Rabidoux, Evangelical Homes of Michigan president and CEO. “This grant from Amcor will allow us to distribute an additional 280 meals that can be enjoyed by local seniors on holidays.”

The Amcor Community Program awards grants to organizations committed to food and environmental protection and the education and delivery of essential products and services, including food, medicine and water to communities in need.
