Active Noise Control Available on Huntair and Ventrol Brand Custom Air Handling Units

Nortek Air Solutions announces that Active Noise Control is available on its Huntair^® and Ventrol^® brands of custom air handlers with FANWALL^® TECHNOLOGY. Active Noise Control technology provides indirect electronic sound control without affecting the airstream. This patent-pending technology can result in a 6 dB to 20 dB sound reduction, making it ideal for sound sensitive environments such as performing arts centers, offices, museum, auditoriums, schools; or any building located adjacent to residential neighborhoods.

This factory installed system self-calibrates upon startup, requiring no additional field installation or commissioning beyond low voltage power wiring. With their shallow cabinet depth, the Active Noise Control modules typically can fit easily in the available space when replacing conventional fans with FANWALL fan array retrofit applications. After startup, these modules require minimal maintenance.

With minimum pressure drop effect and minimum power usage, the Active Noise Control does not negatively affect the even airflow and high energy efficiency intrinsic to FANWALL TECHNOLOGY^® air handling systems. “Sound plays an important role in our work, learning and entertainment environments; and Active Noise Control can enhance those environments by noticeably reducing fan noise,” said Joe Naccarello, Vice President of air handler sales for Nortek Air Solutions. “FANWALL fan array units with Active Noise Control modules have been installed in several projects replacing older, noisy fans. Comparisons of one-third octave band sound data before and after the replacement showed a significant improvement in sound power ratings. For example, two FANWALL systems with Active Noise Control replaced the original 1950s vintage fans in the Broadway Tunnel, a transit hub located in a residential neighborhood of San Francisco. The Active Noise Control system surpassed the sound reduction goals for the project by reducing the fan noise on the inlet side by 20 dB compared to the old fans.”
