Do not be afraid of change

Many maintenance forces have ideas that could help, but fear of failure and ridicule keeps us from becoming better.

With many changes there is first a learning curve where new behaviors cause us to get worse for a little bit. Have convictions when you are doing the right thing and push through this learning curve backwards step.

With many changes, it is first one step back to get two steps forward. Improvement over the status quo calls for leadership, not simply management.

Managers steady the boat, but leaders rock the boat. Yes, we are making good progress, but we need to alter the course a bit.
