Workers out after sheltering from fire in Saskatchewan potash mine

ALLAN, Sask. – Dozens of workers are back above ground after having to take shelter for several hours during a fire at a potash mine southeast of Saskatoon.
Nutrien spokesman Will Tigley told CKOM Radio that the blaze broke out sometime after midnight at the company’s mine near Allan.
He said emergency response teams were called, the fire was extinguished and there were no reported injuries.
Tigley said 63 workers who had hunkered down in underground refuge stations were brought to the surface by about 7:45 a.m.
Tigley said the refuge stations are well-stocked with food, air and other supplies.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Tigley did not say when operations at the mine will resume.
