Fluke Electronics Canada has introduced the Fluke 1550 MegOhmMeter, a rugged insulation resistance tester which combines insulation resistance testing to 5,000 V with measurement storage and PC interface software. Designed for testing switchgear, transformers, motors, generators and cables, the instrument can be used for a wide range of tests, from simple spot checks to timed and breakdown tests. Its 99 memory locations store all measurement parameters, which can then be downloaded to a PC. Features include a ramp function (0 VDC to 5,000 VDC) for breakdown testing, a timer for dielectric absorption, plus the ability to conduct leakage current and cable or insulation capacitance tests. The meter also provides insulation resistance testing up to 1 tera-ohm. It is powered by a rechargeable 12-V battery that provides enough energy for up to 2,500 tests.
