High Speed Mag Drill

January 23, 2019 | By Mario Cywinski

Hougen Manufacturing, Inc., portable magnetic drill, HMD906, is high-speed and designed to take advantage of carbide annular cutters. Carbide tooling is more effective at drilling holes when turned at a higher RPM.

HMD906 comes in two arbor configurations. First arbor uses tool-less quick-change system for rapidly switching out different sizes of cutters that use Fusion2 or one-touch shank. Second arbor takes uses rigid two flat cutter mounting system. Powering the drill is a two-speed Hougen motor.

Addition of a two-stage magnet increases magnetic holding power by 30 per cent when the drill motor is turned on.

HMD906 offers integrated coolant bottle, more robust housing design with carrying handle, a spot to hold the hex wrench, reversible feed handles and a d-ring on the back of the magnet. It also includes positive slug ejection, carrying case, and an available swivel base magnet.

It weighs 35 lbs., measures 22-13/16″H x 7-11/16″W x 11-3/4″ long and provides drilling capacities from 7/16″ up to 2″ (12-50mm) diameter and 2″ (50mm) depth of cut. The drill has an electrical rating of 10A and 350/650-RPM motor.

HMD906 includes a no-adjustment safety switch, an LED indicator, and a two-stage power on switch.
