UL’s Integrated Health & Safety Institute Announces Creation of Advisory Board to Steer Research Agenda

UL’s Integrated Health & Safety Institute (IHSI) today announced the formation of an external advisory board.

The IHSI board includes industry and academic leaders with extensive expertise in the integration of health and safety. Board members will provide key market transformation insights, assist with developing strategic partnerships, and help identify opportunities in the IHSI strategy.

In its first year, IHSI has already made great strides in providing organizations with evidence to support the benefits of integrating health and safety in the workplace and begun the development of educational guidance and measurement tools. IHSI sponsored a study published in the January 2016 issue of JOEM, which found a correlation between a healthy and safe workforce and a company’s stock market performance. The Institute published a standard offering organizations a set of components that should be considered as part of integrated health and safety programming. To help organizations measure the effectiveness of their integrated strategies, IHSI has also developed an index allowing companies to translate the impact of employer health and safety programs in three core dimensions: economic, environmental and social. Most recently, the Institute published a report ranking state’s prevalence of health conditions and workplace safety rates compared to the national average.
