The Archdiocese of Baltimore and Catholic Review Media join Father Lombardi in spirit, and charity, with the “Feet for Francis” shoe drive campaign. The charitable drive has both local and global impact, heeding Pope Francis’ call to help the poor around the world. Through a partnership with Funds2Orgs, a social enterprise that partners with churches, schools and nonprofits across the nation to raise funds through shoe drives, the Feet for Francis goal is to collect 25,000 pairs of shoes. Funds2Orgs will then issue a check to the Archdiocese of Baltimore for all the shoes gathered. A portion of the funds raised through this effort will defray the costs of the walking pilgrimage and the rest will be given to Archbishop William E. Lori for charitable purposes.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore chose to work with Funds2Orgs because it knows the shoes collected will be distributed in over 26 developing nations. In countries where many families live in extreme poverty with only $2 a day, Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs by providing them with inventory to start, maintain and even grow their own small businesses. This helps impoverished families develop their own economic sustainability.

“It is our privilege to be involved in the Feet for Francis campaign in honor of His Holiness, Pope Francis,” said Wayne Elsey, CEO and Founder of Funds2Orgs. “This campaign is in line with the Funds2Orgs mission to have a humanitarian impact that can be felt around the world.”

The Feet for Francis campaign has been going strong. The Archdiocese of Baltimore has called upon Catholic schools, parishes and organizations around the nation to participate in the drive and become part of a global movement.
