Suniva’s Founder Named Fellow of National Academy of Inventors

Suniva, Inc., a manufacturer of high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells and modules, with headquarters in metro-Atlanta and manufacturing facilities in Georgia and Michigan, today announces that its Founder and Chief Technical Officer, Dr. Ajeet Rohatgi, has been named a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).

The National Academy of Inventors was founded in 2010 to recognize and encourage inventors with patents issued from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, enhance the visibility of academic technology and innovation, encourage the disclosure of intellectual property, educate and mentor innovative students, and translate the inventions of its members to benefit society.

Dr. Ajeet Rohatgi is a world-recognized leader in the research, development and manufacture of high-efficiency, low -cost silicon cells using unique technology. In 2007 he founded Suniva, Inc. to create affordable, high-performance solar power products that ultimately serve the market as the most sensible energy option. Dr. Rohatgi is a Regents’ Professor and a John H. Weitnauer, Jr. Chair in the College of Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Honored as an IEEE Fellow, Dr. Rohatgi has published more than 500 papers and holds 19 U.S. and 22 international patents. He is also a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar and the founding director of the University Center of Excellence for Photovoltaic Research and Education (UCEP, where Suniva got its start).

The 2015 Induction class will be honored at the NAI Fellows Induction Ceremony at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and NAI Signature Dinner at the Smithsonian National American History Museum on April 14-15, 2016.
