South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA, Minister: Chang, Myoung-jin) successfully hosted the “2016 International Military Airworthiness Certification Conference (IMAC)” on May 30, 2016.

The theme of this year’s IMAC was “Military Aircraft Airworthiness Certification and Fostering International Cooperation.” This year’s IMAC kicked off with an opening remark by Minister Chang, followed by presentations by seven countries including South Korea, Germany and Spain, setting the stage for in-depth discussions on airworthiness certification system & policies, case studies and international cooperation.

In particular, participating countries showed a keen interest in the progress on South Korea-US mutual recognition, and Spain’s airworthiness authorities expressed their interest in seeking mutual recognition with its South Korean counterpart.

Through this occasion, DAPA expects to establish the direction of international mutual recognition and to contribute to the export of Korean-made aircrafts such as T-X by publicizing their quality and South Korea’s airworthiness certification capabilities.

DAPA, which has held IMAC since 2010, is the only Asian defense organization to host a military airworthiness conference. DAPA will continue to host IMAC biennially to expand interactions with major partner countries, beef up its airworthiness certification expertise and promote the export of Korean armaments.
