LEATHERHEAD, England

Smithers Rapra has announced the programme for the High Performance Polymers for Oil & Gas 2015 conference, taking place from 23-24 September at The Roxburghe, Edinburgh, UK.

Over 18 speakers will be presenting during the two day conference including Greene, Tweed & Co, Weatherford International and Trelleborg, with a keynote address from Rustom Mody, Vice President/Chief Engineer at Baker Hughes, who comments that “the fuel that drives innovation is diversity of thought, knowledge and collaboration. It is very critical that key players within various industries get to together and share ideas”.

The oil and gas industries have been significantly impacted by the recent energy price crash, which has greatly reduced the buoyancy of the market. While recovery technologies continue to develop and expand our reach, we will inevitably be required to source at greater depths, higher pressures and temperatures than ever previously encountered. In order for companies to innovate effectively, it is imperative to understand how these drivers will co-relate to create the high performance polymers of the future and how the industry can work together to meet the demands of its customers.

Building on the success of the 2014 conference, with a 150-strong attendance, the programme provides a comprehensive insight into the full spectrum of polymeric materials used within oil and gas recovery, including high performance composites and elastomers.

Tailored to the specific needs of the market, experts will showcase new materials and processing technologies that will improve current application performance and open the door to better material selections. The programme will feature operator insights, contractor challenges and original technical research, and address current challenges and opportunities within key sessions focused on application challenges and future requirements; understanding the impact of oil prices; harsh temperature and pressure environments; the potential of 3D printing and the modeling and comparative reviews of future materials.

There will also be a panel discussion on how unconventional oil exploration is affecting the traditional technology and materials industry, including panellists: Jon Cutler, Materials Development Manager, Trelleborg and Andrew Paterson, Head of Strategy, Infield Systems Limited.
