PERKASIE, Pa.

Emily Ho, director and general manager of advanced biomaterials at Secant Medical, will present “Building a New Biomaterial: From Creation to Commercialization” at the Society for Biomaterials 2015 Annual Meeting in Charlotte, NC on Friday, April 17. Ho will outline the challenges that manufacturers face during the scale-up of a new biomaterial, obstacles encountered at the commercialization stage, and potential domestic and international regulatory hurdles.

“The evolving trend in the healthcare industry is not just to save lives but also to restore quality of life to patients,” says Emily Ho. “The movement towards minimally invasive surgery and multi-functional devices is driving medical innovation and the development of new biomaterials.” Ho will discuss the path of poly(glycerol sebacate), a bioresorbable polymer, and how its characteristics could drive adoption in a diverse range of medical applications.

Secant Medical will be exhibiting poly(glycerol sebacate), also known as Regenerez®, as well as the company’s biomedical textile structures during the Society for Biomaterials 2015 Annual Meeting & Exposition, April 15-18, in Booth #301 at the Charlotte Convention Center.
