Rittal’s New Tear-Down Video Describes Advantages of Modular Enclosure Design Concept

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.

Rittal Corporation (www.rittal.us), the world’s largest manufacturer of electrical enclosure cabinets for power distribution systems, climate control systems and IT infrastructure for multiple industries, has created a unique video of a “TS 8 System Enclosure TEAR-DOWN.” The video shows Lee Teschler of Design World magazine and Rittal’s Steve Sullivan literally take apart a Rittal TS 8 cabinet, the world’s most popular cabinet enclosure. The demonstration highlights the additional volume, strength and flexibility of a modular cabinet design, compared to a unibody welded cabinet.

Rittal’s flagship product with more than 10 million units sold to date, the TS 8 enclosure is a freestanding enclosure used around the world in industries from Food and Beverage and Oil and Gas to IT applications. Its modular construction allows for easy assembly, baying, equipment installations, removals and reconfigurations. In the video, Sullivan disassembles the unit on his own, demonstrating how the enclosure can be built and modified with just one person, with no crews and cranes needed as with other systems. The tear-down lets viewers see the cabinet’s 16-fold frame rails, which is unusually strong, having been tested to over 3,000 pounds of load. Sullivan points out that the frame’s symmetrical design front to back as well as side to side allows for easy baying. Viewers can see that all the inner surfaces of the cabinet are painted using a three-stage paint process unique to the industry for optimum corrosion protection. Rittal is the only enclosure manufacturer that offers a painting process similar to that of the automobile industry as a standard with all its enclosures.
