Nylon POY and DTY markets improved over June, but FDY demand was depressed with slow offtake for defense applications and the warp knit sector. Demand from seamless apparel was good, but nylon faced increasing substitution by polyester.
Nylon BCF carpet fibre markets remained satisfactory in commercial segments where office and hospitability demand was good, but residential carpet demand was disappointing. Housing construction data are relatively positive for both new home starts and also new permits issued. However the emphasis remained on multi-family constructions (apartments, condominiums etc), rather than single-family housing where there is a greater volume of carpet fibre used.
