PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) today announced the completion of a Colorful Communities charitable-giving project near its paint-manufacturing plant in Cieszyn, Poland. Mayor Ryszard Macura of Cieszyn and Waldemar Gołębiewski, director of the PPG plant, recently reopened a children’s playground in the Park pod Wałką after renovation, expansion and painting was completed as part of PPG’s global Colorful Communities initiative. Launched earlier this year, the program expands PPG’s current investment in communities by committing $10 million over 10 years.
The playground, which was in need of restoration, is an important community resource offering residents of Cieszyn and the surrounding area a place where families can spend time outdoors. PPG donated more than $14,000, along with DEKORAL® brand paints, to help renovate and expand the playground with a new swing set, carousel and safety mats. Nearly 30 volunteers, including employees from the PPG Polifarb Cieszyn facility and their families, used the Dekoral products to restore playground equipment and brighten the area.
“PPG is committed to supporting the communities where it has a presence and beautifying important community resources near our facilities,” Gołębiewski said. “Safety is also a priority of our company, and we decided to extend the project by constructing features that also help increase the safety of the playground.”
Launched in May, PPG’s Colorful Communities initiative aims to enhance, protect and beautify neighborhoods where the company operates. Together with community partners and PPG employee volunteers, the program supports projects that transform community assets using donated PPG paint and coatings products. Examples of other Colorful Communities projects have included a school classroom makeover, conservation of a historical monument in a city center, and painting over graffiti in important community spaces.
The Colorful Communities program is currently engaged with a number of communities and expects to complete more than 14 projects in 2015 in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. PPG has completed four other Colorful Communities projects to date: one in the United States, one in Italy, one in South Korea and one in China.
In 2014, PPG and the PPG Industries Foundation donated more than $5.7 million to hundreds of community organizations across 24 countries around the world. These investments focused on: education programs that teach young people skills needed to succeed in studies and careers related to science, technology, engineering and math, such as jobs in advanced manufacturing; revitalization programs for buildings and community spaces; and organizations important to employees through grant and matching-funds programs.
PPG Industries and the PPG Industries Foundation aim to create brighter, more Colorful communities where PPG has a presence around the world. By investing in educational opportunities, we help grow today’s skilled workforce and develop tomorrow’s innovators in industries related to coatings and specialty materials. With the support of our workforce, financial contributions and PPG products, we help revitalize our communities. Plus, we empower PPG employees to make an impact for causes that are important to them by supporting their volunteer efforts and charitable giving. Learn more at www.ppgcommunities.com.
