Science, like mathematics, is a subject that transcends national and geographic borders. Regardless of location, the advancement of science education requires that students be given access to modern technologies that allow them to “do” science rather than just read about it. PASCO® Scientific, a global leader in technology-based solutions for hands-on science, is helping educators and students in more than 100 countries transform science education in their classrooms. For example, the PASCO Professional Development team recently completed a three-day training with educators in Oman to prepare students for STEM success.
In Oman, PASCO’s Professional Development team worked with the Ministry of Education and its partners at Mustafa Sultan Enterprises to provide training for biology, chemistry and physics teachers and lab technicians. The training focused on software and hardware solutions, including PASCO’s award-winning SPARKvue® science learning application and all-digital PASPORT sensors. PASCO’s customized professional development offerings empower teachers with the content knowledge, technological skills and pedagogical strategies they need to effectively integrate technology into their science teaching.
“When students have the right technology and tools to do science, they develop competencies that help them prepare for job opportunities in the global marketplace,” said Steven Korte, CEO of PASCO. “Over the past 50 years, we’ve partnered with many countries around the world to help them improve student performance and motivation in science. Whether they’re modernizing classrooms, helping teachers prepare students for college and careers, or providing inquiry-based learning, we have the training and tools they need to create and sustain a 21st century science education program.”
Through its many partnerships, PASCO helps Ministries of Education develop and assemble the building blocks to prepare students for science and STEM success. For example, in Arequipa, Peru, PASCO worked with the State President and regional science partner, Bionet, to deliver the guidance and support teachers needed to create an inquiry-based learning environment. In Kazakhstan, PASCO was selected as a key partner to help develop a science program and train teachers to integrate technology into their instruction.
“PASCO was born from a science fair project, so hands-on inquiry-based science is built into the company’s DNA,” said Korte. “Our mission is to provide educators worldwide with innovative ways to teach and learn science, and we look forward to continuing our work to transform science education with powerful tools for the classroom.”
