PENNDEL, Pa., Sept. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Designing, weaving, and donating three custom carpets – including the iconic 75′ x 9′ “Medallions of Hope” Cardinal Red/Gothic Gold airport welcome carpet – for the Philadelphia Papal Visit has been a labor of love for months on the Langhorne Carpet looms in the tiny borough (pop. 2,200) of Penndel, Pennsylvania. Langhorne’s talented ‘Weave Team’, accompanied by government officials, textile design experts, and neighbors, bids farewell to the distinctive carpet that will be rolled out at Philadelphia International Airport for the Pope’s arrival and departure. UPS has arranged (also as a donation) for the precious cargo to be shipped the 32 miles in one of its fleet of fuel-efficient Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV). Borough officials, including the Mayor and Police Chief, will be on hand for the roll up and celebratory send off that will include a blessing of the carpet by the Rev. Robert Gross, Our Lady of Grace Parish, presentation of a Postcard to the Pope from all mill employees, and a police escort to the Airport. Last week the UPS HEV delivered the other two Langhorne Papal visit carpets that feature gold medallions set against a deep green background, for use in the Rectory of the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. Reproductions of the 100% organic wool carpets will also be on display and mill tours will be conducted.
