Oxea Expands Carboxylic Acid Offerings to Support Global Animal Feed Market Growth

May 5, 2015 | By Business Wire News

OBERHAUSEN, Germany

With the introduction of Propionic Acid AF (animal feed grade) into its carboxylic acid product portfolio, Oxea launches a complementary addition to its n-Butyric Acid AF, which has been supplied into the market for more than five years. Propionic acid is used extensively as a preservative in agriculture, such as a mold protecting active for silage, as well as in industrial bakery for prevention of mold, yeast and fungi growth. Propionates, its acid salts, are also applied as preservatives in animal feed for aquaculture, poultry, pork and ruminants.

“Both Oxea’s Propionic Acid AF and Butyric Acid AF are key feedstocks for various acid salts used by the feed and agriculture industries,” says Oliver Borgmeier, Commercial Business Director of Carboxylic Acids at Oxea. “With our continuously enhanced product portfolio, Oxea has been actively and successfully engaged in supporting the growth of our feed customers.”

In 2010, Oxea launched its n-Butyric Acid AF. Among many other uses, Butyric Acid AF is used as a raw material in the production of butyrates, the salt forms, to support todays’ trend towards the substitution of in-feed antibiotic growth promoters. Butyrates are channeled to the target organs in the animal’s intestine in fat-coated or non-coated administration forms.

To help the end users and industry suppliers, such as farmers and feed additive producers, obtain a better understanding on the usage and essential benefits of n-Butyric Acid AF, Oxea has introduced a digital brochure, which is available for download under www.oxea-chemicals.com/go/butyric-af. “We know that there are still questions around the exact applications and effects of n-butyric acid and butyrates. This brochure will address those question marks in an easy-to-comprehend manner,” explains Borgmeier.

“Through offering our expertise, state-of-the-art technology and a comprehensive product range, Oxea’s relentless effort in meeting changing and growing customer demand will carry on,” affirms Cristobal Ascencio, Executive Vice President of Oxo Derivatives at Oxea.
