Optomec to Showcase 3D Printed Electronics at UK Conference
By Business Wire News
Optomec, a leading global supplier of production grade additive manufacturing systems for 3D Printed Metals and 3D Printed Electronics, announced today that the company will feature its production grade Aerosol Jet 3D Printers at the Innovations in Large-Area Electronics (InnoLAE) Conference on February 1-2 at Robinson College in Cambridge, UK. In addition to the exhibition, Dr. Mike Renn, Chief Technology Officer for Optomec, will give a presentation on “Aerosol Jet Printing of Antenna and Sensors for Smart IoT Devices.”
While IoT applications are varied, common components for “Smart Connected Devices” include antenna and sensors. Digitally driven printing technologies, such as the Optomec Aerosol Jet® system, enable rapid design turn-around, reduced manufacturing steps, and a broader choice of target substrate and materials. Aerosol Jet technology is a high volume 3D printing solution for the production of conformal electronic components and circuitry. The process is non-contact, room temperature, and capable of patterning a wide variety of electronic and polymeric materials at the micrometer size scale. In the process, a liquid ink is aerosolized and the droplets are aerodynamically focused to a micron-scale point on the target substrate. The ink options include a wide range of commercially available nanoparticle conductors, polymeric and inorganic semiconductors, ceramics, graphene and other functional materials. Dr. Renn will present case studies involving production-scale printing of broadband, Bluetooth and NFC antenna, along with strain and creep sensors. Material considerations, such as processing temperature, performance and reliability will also be discussed.
With an emphasis on manufacturing, innoLAE 2016 provides an opportunity to hear the latest results from UK academic researchers, the latest developments from UK and international companies active in the LAE technology (including printed, plastic, organic and flexible electronics), and keynotes from leading international researchers and end-user organizations. Optomec will be located in booth #1. For more information on InnoLAE, click here.
