OLYMPIC Paints and Stains Announces Sponsorship of THIS OLD HOUSE Cottage at Cloudland Station

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa.

The OLYMPIC® Paints and Stains brand today announced its partnership with THIS OLD HOUSE® magazine for the 2015 This Old House Cottage at Cloudland Station.

The cozy-yet-modern 1,950-square-foot Craftsman-style cottage is a show house that sits amid a 450-acre community near Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Olympic Paints and Stains provided more than 125 gallons of paint and stain for the home in various soothing neutral tones, as well as classic pops of color.

“We love the rich and varied palette of the cottage. Consumers can easily recreate this home’s look by balancing bright, cheerful hues like yellow, green and blue with subtle neutrals such as taupe and grey,” said Lia Gancas, senior brand manager, Olympic brand of PPG Architectural Coatings. “In addition to a beautiful palette, the Olympic Paints and Stains brand offers high-quality, durable coatings that withstand wear for years to come.”

Refined neutrals, which transform along with the day’s light, lend warmth to the cozy, Craftsman-style bungalow. Using Olympic ONE® paint for the interior and exterior surfaces, the home’s palette includes varying shades of grey, including Quill (D16-2), Stormy Weather (D16-3), Submarine (D64-5) and Whispering Wind (D16-1), paired with scrumptious tans such as Crumb Cookie (C20-1), Toasted Almond (D13-2), Cornmeal (B12-2) and Butter (A11-3). These tones tie in seamlessly with the exterior stain – Olympic ELITE WOODLAND OIL® coating in Mountain Cedar, which is a transparent, medium-toned brown that offers durability and exceptional ultraviolet (UV) resistance, according to Gancas.

Punches of color used in the cottage give a fresh take on an otherwise neutral palette, with blues such as Chinese Porcelain (C52-5), the exterior siding color, and Castile (C56-5), Gone Bananas (A11-5) yellow, and greens such as Asparagus (B68-5), Aloe Vera (B68-2) and Cactus Blossom (C62-1).

“We encourage homeowners to pick their paint palettes after choosing larger furniture and décor items to ensure a complementary and cohesive color scheme, which is exactly what we did at the Cottage at Cloudland Station,” said Yvonne McFadden of Yvonne McFadden Interiors, designer of the This Old House Cottage at Cloudland Station. “The greens and blues in our primary ground-floor fabrics tie in with the Aloe Vera and Asparagus greens and Chinese Porcelain blue used on the exterior of the home. These colors add a crisp youthfulness to the home.”

Look for the Olympic brand and the This Old House Cottage at Cloudland Station extensively in the 2015 November/December issue of This Old House magazine and on the magazine’s website.
