Nutonian’s Michael Schmidt Named to Boston Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 for 2015

October 1, 2015 | By Business Wire News

BOSTON

Nutonian, the machine intelligence company, today announced that Founder and CEO Michael Schmidt was selected as one of Boston Business Journal’s 2015 40 Under 40. The award honors Boston’s young business and civic leaders who are committed to enhancing the civic health of the Boston area through mentorship, volunteer efforts, and various other modes of philanthropy.

Schmidt founded Nutonian in 2011 out of the Cornell Artificial Intelligence Lab and is the driving force behind the development of the company’s Eureqa product, a machine intelligence application that automates the discovery and interpretation of analytical models. Eureqa churns through companies’ data to explain what is happening and why, and how to maximize an outcome. Eureqa has more than 80,000 installations globally across financial services, manufacturing, retail and utilities.

“In selecting Boston’s best and brightest young professionals, we are celebrating the local people who are achievers, innovators and civic leaders in their respective fields,” said Gale Murray, publisher of the Boston Business Journal. “This year’s class of 40 Under 40 reflects the mix of brains and passion that makes Boston a business powerhouse.”

In addition to running Somerville-based Nutonian, Schmidt is an active member of Technology Underwriting Greater Good (TUGG) and regularly speaks at hack/reduce, Harvard, and the MIT Sloan School of Business. Schmidt has received an assortment of other high-profile accolades, including MIT Technology Review’s 35 Innovators Under 35 (2014), The Boston Globe’s Top Innovators (2013), Forbes’ The World’s 7 Most Powerful Data Scientists (2011), and Discover Magazine’s Top Science Stories of the Year (2010).

“It’s an honor to be part of this group,” said Schmidt. “I still see myself as just a Midwestern guy from Wisconsin building software to understand data. But I am grateful for all of the support and recognition, and it goes without saying that I wouldn’t be accepting this award without the tremendous vision and drive of the entire Nutonian team. Hopefully, this is just the beginning.”

The Boston Business Journal received more than 375 nominations. Editors selected the winners of the 18th annual 40 Under 40 award based on their professional accomplishments and civic engagement.
