New Truck Enforcement Solutions from Kapsch TrafficCom Deliver Proven Results

September 14, 2015 | By Business Wire News

MCLEAN, Va.

Kapsch TrafficCom North America introduced a new suite of End-2-End Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) solutions that can help maximize state enforcement resources, improve vehicle compliance, and increase roadway safety. The new Kapsch CVE solutions suite is founded upon an “Identify, Assess, and Intervene” philosophy that utilizes video and other sensor technologies to provide government agencies with information to help target enforcement – both in real-time and after the fact.

According to Steve Sprouffske, manager of Intelligent Transportation Solutions (ITS) at Kapsch TrafficCom North America, “CVE solutions are a natural extension of our current offerings and have proven effective worldwide. A great example is our commercial vehicle weight enforcement system in the Czech Republic, which is credited with collecting nearly $1 million in overweight fees in an eight-month period and increasing roadway lifespan up to seven years.”1

The solutions are entirely modular, and can be deployed on the mainline, virtually, or in mobile situations. Included in the product offerings are: 24/7/365 truck screening; real-time permit, and credential enforcement; direct weigh-in-motion (WIM) enforcement; and supervised third-party assistance. Kapsch’s proven back office solutions add the flexibility to provide violation processing, collections, customer care, and more. Sprouffske added, “Kapsch CVE solutions offer states the opportunity for enforcement oversight on all trucks on a more flexible and continuous basis.”

Kapsch CVE solutions will be available for previewing at the CVSA Annual Meeting & Exhibition (booth #15) from September 14-17, 2015 in Boise, Idaho. 1 These figures are drawn from a Kapsch WIM pilot project in the Czech Republic and are therefore forecasted amounts for the eight-month period (9/2012 – 3/2013). During this time 100% of passing trucks were weighed. Road lifespan was projected to increase by seven years as 10% overload corresponds to a 46% increase in road damage and a 35% reduction in pavement life (which equates to seven years for a European road whose standard life is 20 years).
