EVANSTON, Ill.

Manufacturers’ News, Inc./– Nevada manufacturing employment climbed for a fourth straight year, reports the 2016 Nevada Manufacturers Directory®, an industrial database and directory published by Manufacturers’ News, Inc. (MNI) Evanston, IL. According to MNI’s database of manufacturers, Nevada gained 766 manufacturing jobs from November 2014 to November 2015, or 1.4%.

Nevada is now home to 1,804 manufacturers employing 57,531 workers. MNI reports the state has so far added 3,361 industrial jobs or 6.2% since November 2011, recovering about 40% of losses suffered during the recession.

“After the recession’s precipitous losses, Nevada has come back as a prime location for a variety of enterprises, and massive projects planned by Tesla and Faraday Future will continue to boost employment for years to come,” says Tom Dubin, President of the Evanston, IL-based publishing company, which has been surveying industry since 1912. “Although the state struggles with a shortage of skilled workers, it boasts a low cost of doing business and competitive incentive packages.”

MNI reports employment gains were led by the fabricated metals industry, which increased 4.7% over the year. The fabricated metals sector ranks second in the state for industrial employment, with 5,362 jobs.

Other industrial sectors reporting gains included industrial machinery, up 18%; lumber/wood, up 12%; primary metals, up 3.9%; rubber/plastics, up 3.5%; chemicals, up 2.6%; and transportation equipment, up 2%.

Gains were offset by losses in metal mining, the state’s largest sector by employment, down 1.9% over the survey period to 6,664 jobs.

Manufacturing jobs in Las Vegas rose 2.4% over the year to 17,236 jobs. Industrial employment climbed 7.6% in Carson City, and a half percent in Reno.
