ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill.

Safety in the metals industry is a top priority, a mindset supported by the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI). The upcoming MSCI Safety Conference being held Oct. 12 – 13, 2015 at the Renaissance Convention Center Hotel in Schaumburg, Ill., features a program designed by the volunteers of MSCI’s Safety committee, a group of 20 metals industry safety professionals.

“It is a moral obligation of companies to ensure that their workers return home safely every day, and safe companies are successful companies “ said M. Robert Weidner, III, MSCI president and CEO. “This event is the only metals industry specific opportunity for executives, operations managers and safety professionals to meet, learn and exchange information and best practices.”

In 2013, 4,585 workers were killed on the job in the United States, an average of 88 a week or more than 12 deaths every day.* The Safety Conference features an opening keynote by Deborah Hersman, president and CEO of the National Safety Council. Breakout sessions cover topics from OSHA compliance and creating a safety culture to specific tools for improving employee safety and achieving a zero accident rate. Because of the importance of safety, the conference has tiered pricing to help companies bring teams of attendees and allows non-members to register as well.

The Safety Conference is the part of an overall safety initiative by MSCI to provide information and resources for its members to improve employee safety. Quarterly webinars, the Optimum Safety Hotline, a free Safety Handbook and the Safety Best Practices & Success Study are also offered to members.

Founded in 1909, the Metals Service Center Institute is a non-profit association based in Rolling Meadows, Ill., serving the metals industry. It serves members in more than 1,500 locations throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the world.
