Li Tong Group’s Consumer Trade-in Program Scores Strong Sustainability, Economic Gains for Microsoft in Hong Kong

By Business Wire News

Demonstrating its unique capacity to serve the seemingly disparate goals of reducing clients’ carbon footprints while also boosting sales, the Li Tong Group (LTG) has successfully implemented a technology trade-in program for Microsoft that does exactly that. Since the onset of the program in Hong Kong in May 2015, the all-online electronic product trade-in platform has driven sales of new Microsoft hardware purchases as well as helped the company reach its sustainability goals by reducing the carbon footprint of its manufacturing processes.

The program, designed and managed by LTG, offers Hong Kong consumers a convenient way to trade-in Microsoft products in exchange for coupons towards new products available through Microsoft’s online store. LTG provides the valuation of the products that are traded in and works closely with Microsoft to coordinate and manage the program’s overall operation and workflow, including the website LTG developed and hosts.

“The specialized program our team has developed for Microsoft eliminates compromise and cognitive dissonance when it comes to new technology and environmentalism,” said Linda Li. Chief Strategy Officer, LTG. “Our partnership with Microsoft in Hong Kong is a testament to how RSCM can drive commercial and sustainability goals and facilitate deeper, more meaningful engagement with consumers.”

The trade-in process begins with a consumer registering the product to be traded in. Upon registration, the product is picked up and delivered to a facility where its condition is tested. LTG then activates an e-coupon based on the condition and subsequent valuation of the device that can be used toward any purchase at Microsoft’s online store.

“Delivering a positive customer experience is critical to Microsoft and we required a partner who not only understood our range of products and services but also our commitment to service and support,” said Katie Choy, Online Store Manager, Microsoft Hong Kong Ltd. “The team at LTG helped us design, implement and manage every step of our post-consumer trade-in process. With their end-to-end processing capabilities, including data sanitization, refurbishing, repurposing and recycling, the program has allowed us to become more sustainable while also retaining customers long after the initial transaction process.”
