Keller Rohrback L.L.P. Files Nationwide Class Action Lawsuit Against Volkswagen for Defeat Devices in Diesel Cars

September 23, 2015 | By Business Wire News

SEATTLE

(ATTORNEY ADVERTISING)– Tuesday night, attorneys from Keller Rohrback L.L.P. filed a lawsuit on behalf of 14 people in 10 states, against automaker Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (“Volkswagen”) for selling and leasing Volkswagen and Audi diesel cars equipped with unlawful “defeat devices.” People who own or lease those cars are understandably outraged. As explained in Keller Rohrback’s lawsuit, the cars Plaintiffs purchased “are not environmentally friendly, ‘clean’ diesels. Instead, they are dirty diesels – cars that pollute so much that they violate state and federal environmental protection laws.” The Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) has said the “defeat device” cars are emitting nitrous oxide, a dangerous pollutant, at levels 10 to 40 times what is allowed under the law.

Thus, while Volkswagen consumers believed they were buying or leasing environmentally friendly and fuel efficient “clean” diesel cars, in fact, they were misled by Volkswagen. The affected cars pollute more, and because of Volkswagen’s deception, are worth less.

According to the EPA, the affected models and model years (“MY”) include:

  • Jetta (MY 2009-2015)
  • Jetta Sportwagen (MY 2009-2014)
  • Beetle (MY 2012-2015)
  • Beetle Convertible (MY 2012-2015)
  • Audi A3 (MY 2010-2015)
  • Golf (MY 2010-2015)
  • Golf Sportwagen (MY 2015)
  • Passat (MY 2012-2015)

Keller Rohrback, a leading consumer protection firm, filed one of the first lawsuits against Volkswagen related to the defeat device vehicles. Since then hundreds of concerned consumers from around the country have contacted Keller Rohrback to find out what they can do to help ensure that Volkswagen is held responsible for its actions. This means forcing Volkswagen to compensate consumers and fix the polluting cars.
