SANTA ANA, Calif.

Iteris, Inc. (NYSE MKT: ITI), a leader in providing information solutions to the transportation and agriculture markets, is participating in the grand opening of Mcity, the University of Michigan’s (U-M) 32 acre testing facility for connected and driverless vehicle technologies. Iteris has been a key part of many initiatives intended to advance connected vehicle technologies including developing the U.S. DOT’s Connected Vehicle Reference Implementation Architecture.

At the grand opening, Iteris is featuring several currently deployed technologies including multi-sensor detection systems, travel time measurement system, and a transportation management center for data analytics, viewing and measuring the performance and safe existence of driverless vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians in the Mcity environment. The Iteris systems will remain in Mcity for continued collaborative studies of the interdisciplinary group.

“Our goal is to keep everything connected and communicating within the transportation network,” stated Ramin Massoumi, senior vice president and general manager, Transportation Systems at Iteris. “This testing environment should accelerate the connected vehicle technology, complementing and advancing our work with the connected vehicle infrastructure architecture definitions. In the end, efficient movement of goods and people, with zero accidents is the goal. This environment provides a great opportunity to test a variety of technologies.”

Todd Kreter, senior vice president and general manager, Roadways Sensors at Iteris, added: “The systems we have in Mcity are currently used on roadways worldwide. The sensors detect movement of both vehicles and bicycles, and communicate with the traffic controllers to safely improve traffic flow. Efficiency and safety are always our focus, and the newer technologies we are validating hold significant promise for the future of connected vehicles.”

Mcity, located in Ann Arbor at U-M’s North Campus, is celebrating its grand opening this week.
