Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries around the world, has been recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its volatile organic compound (VOC) certification program. With this recognition, the company’s ETL Environmental VOC Mark for indoor air quality has been added to USGBC’s list as an acceptable certification program for the LEED v4 Low-Emitting Materials Credit.
Intertek’s ETL Environmental VOC Mark illustrates that products such as flooring, furniture, drywall, paint, foam insulation and other building materials meet acceptable VOC limits. As a USGBC-listed certification, any product bearing an ETL Environmental VOC Mark automatically qualifies for Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ) credits for LEED certification with the USGBC, without needing to take additional steps for validation. In addition to new products receiving certification, hundreds of products that have been certified with the ETL Environmental VOC Mark are now eligible for these IEQ credits.
“The U.S. Green Building Council is the pinnacle of green certification in the building products and materials industry,” said Brian Kneibel, Business Development Manager for Intertek’s Environmental and Sustainability Solutions group. “We’re proud of achieving this recognition as we clear a path for our ETL Environmental VOC certification to continue offering quality solutions for sustainability to the marketplace.”
To be listed with the USGBC, Intertek illustrated a comprehensive VOC certification program with ongoing monitoring, accreditation to testing requirements, conformity to ISO 17065 standards, acceptable standard operating procedures and relevance to the industry. The ETL Environmental VOC Mark, also indicates compliance to certain ANSI/BIFMA standards.
