Georgia Central Railway Ready for New Business at Georgia’s First Dual-Certified Mega Site/Super Park

LYONS, Ga.

Georgia Central Railway (GC) is ready to serve additional customers at the Heart of Georgia (HOG) Mega Site, a 2,000-acre industrial park in Dublin, Georgia, that received dual Mega Site/Super Park certification last week from McCallum Sweeney Consulting (MSC). The site is the first in both Georgia and the U.S. to obtain this dual certification and, earlier this year, became the first site in Dublin-Laurens County to be certified as Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development (GRAD).

GC stretches 171 miles from Macon to Savannah and provides rail frontage along the HOG Mega Site, which is designed for manufacturing and distribution centers. The railroad has connectivity with two Class I rail partners: Norfolk Southern in Macon and CSX in Savannah.

“These certifications demonstrate that the site is key to commercial development in the area,” GC President Andy Chunko said. “Georgia Central is proud to offer rail service at the site, and we look forward to serving any new businesses that locate there.”

Both the MSC and GRAD certifications ensure that land at the Mega Site is market- and shovel-ready for new businesses.

“With direct interstate frontage along I-16 as well as 5,000 linear feet of railroad operated by GC, the best short line partner for us, our Mega Site is ready for more business to come to Middle Georgia,” Brad Lofton, president of Dublin-Laurens County Development Authority, said. “We are excited to work with the GC team to locate advanced manufacturers of regional and statewide significance.”

The site is one of the largest available tracts in Georgia and, in addition to rail, includes amenities such as competitive pricing; air, road and sea transportation capabilities; ample space and an available workforce to support growth.

Georgia Central Railway, L.P. is a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Inc., North America’s largest owner of short line and regional freight railroads and a safety leader in the industry.
