FLEXcon Announces Boost to Value Proposition via Unique Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Compliance Service Offering

April 28, 2015 | By Business Wire News

SPENCER, Mass.

FLEXcon, an innovator in adhesive coating and laminating, today highlighted a unique service the company provides to customers who are navigating the UL compliance process. For the past 25 years, Jim Potter, technical service representative, Product Identification, FLEXcon, has worked with converters and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) servicing industries that are regulated by UL, such as durable goods, consumer electronics and industrial equipment. He assists them with identifying appropriate labeling substrates to suit their applications while meeting UL standards, as well as guiding them through the necessary UL certification process to expand their UL files.

“FLEXcon looks to leverage its unique expertise to serve as a true partner to customers navigating through the UL compliance journey,” said Potter. “When customers come to us with a request, we look at the big picture to ensure that fulfilling their inquiry is strategically the best next step rather than just meeting their immediate need.”

“When we came to FLEXcon looking for help with UL compliance, Jim and his team went above and beyond answering the basic questions that we had initially approached them with,” said Clarence Shaw of Baldor, Inc. “Instead of simply meeting our request at face value, they asked a lot of questions and looked at our process, the growth potential and where we wanted to be. They made recommendations based on all that information and then walked us through the entire process with UL, helping us to achieve a more profitable end goal.”

Over the years, Jim has developed long-term relationships with staff at UL and gained vast knowledge of the durables industry and labeling applications. More recently, as a member of the Association for Automatic Identification & Mobility (AIM) and the Material Handlers Institute (MHI), Jim has served for the past two years as a member of the MH10.8 Committee of MHI in connection with label test procedures for one and two-dimensional barcode labels. The Committee is designated by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), through the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), as Technical Committee 122. In this role, Jim represents North America as a voting member of the Committee, and this involvement allows him to offer insights and expertise to help shape policy. Jim’s knowledge of durable labeling helps to ensure that any new standards are reasonable and do not place undue burden on label suppliers or OEMs. In fact, last week Jim participated in a Library of Congress meeting to help determine new policies related to materials handling (MH 10) standards.
