Exostar Announces Collaboration Solution to Support DFARS-Compliant Exchange of Covered Defense Information

May 11, 2016 | By Business Wire News

HERNDON, Va.

Exostar, whose cloud-based solutions help companies in aerospace and defense, life sciences, and healthcare mitigate risk and solve their identity and access challenges, today announced its multi-enterprise collaboration solution now includes a robust digital rights management protection capability that extends information protection so defense contractors can comply with the latest Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) provisions issued by the Department of Defense (DoD).

DFARS 252.204-7012, “Safeguarding Covered Defense Information and Cyber Incident Reporting,” mandates compliance with over 100 security requirements identified in Special Publication 800-171 from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). These requirements specify how information is to be protected for local and network access across nonfederal information systems and organizations. Contractors and their subcontractors who exchange Covered Defense Information (CDI) have until no later than December 2017 to fully comply with the DFARS mandate or risk contract loss or disqualification.

Contractors and their supply chain partners require solutions that deliver secure, seamless collaboration across enterprise boundaries to promote productivity, protect sensitive information, and ensure DoD compliance. By extending its proven, Software-as-a-Service collaboration solution with the integration of Seclore’s Enterprise Digital Rights Management, Exostar enables organizations to leverage granular, document-centric security to persistently protect sensitive information wherever it resides. Document owners can enforce who can open, edit, copy/paste, screen share, or print a document, for how long, and from which device, even after the document is downloaded by a user. Owners can remotely modify or revoke these privileges at any time.

“Incorporating Seclore’s rights management protection functionality means our customers can automatically apply, control, and audit policies that dictate who can access a document and what they can do with it, no matter where the document travels,” said Vijay Takanti, Exostar’s Vice President of Security and Collaboration Solutions. “This capability, integrated with our existing support for multi-factor authentication, controls local and network access to documents classified as CDI via two-factor authentication. Contractors and subcontractors can work together efficiently and effectively and demonstrate adherence to the NIST SP 800-171 security requirements that drive DFARS compliance.”

“Building walls around the systems and devices where information resides does not provide adequate protection, regardless of whether access and sharing take place across business units or outside of the enterprise. You have to retain control of documents and how they can be used while they are in-transit, at-rest, and at work,” said Vishal Gupta, CEO at Seclore. “With our Enterprise Digital Rights Management, Exostar’s multi-enterprise collaboration solution is uniquely positioned to help defense contractors achieve DFARS compliance and tackle related information security endeavors like Export Administration Regulations.”

Exostar is conducting a Webinar today at 1 PM ET to describe and demonstrate how its multi-enterprise collaboration solution helps defense contractors and their supply chains exchange CDI compliantly.
