EPA Approves Registration Application for FYSIUM®

July 29, 2015 | By Business Wire News

WAPATO, Wash.

Pace International LLC has announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved its application for the registration of FYSIUM®, a new 1-MCP technology that will help apple packers in the United States improve the quality and value of their apples. FYSIUM® was designed and developed by Janssen PMP, a company already well known in the apple market for their FUNGAFLOR® and PENBOTEC® postharvest products.

FYSIUM was introduced to the U.S. market during the 2014 season under a Federal Experimental Use Permit (EUP) which included a significant number of commercial treatments around the country. Important varieties such as Red Delicious, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Jonagold, Empire, Jonathan, Fuji, Pink Lady, Rome, Gala and McIntosh benefitted from FYSIUM treatments.

“This is great news for apple packers in the United States looking for a technology that is not only effective and clean, but also highly flexible in the way it delivers the gas into the storage room. FYSIUM allows the applicator to track the progress of the application from the outside of the room and remove the machine once the job is done,” said Roberto Carpentier, Executive Vice president of Pace International. “We are very excited to continue to bring this new innovation to our customers that will contribute to the availability, quality and freshness of their apples.”

FYSIUM® is now a registered product in the states of Washington, Pennsylvania, Idaho, Michigan, Oregon, New York, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and Massachusetts.

FYSIUM®, the future of 1-MCP

The patented FYSIUM® technology is like no other 1-MCP in the market as it is generated on site by a generator placed outside the storage room. The generator is operated by certified experts who carefully calculate and tailor the precise dose required to treat the desired fruit.
