Ecolab Mosquito Program Helps Customers Reduce Mosquito Presence, Improve Guest Satisfaction and Employee Safety

May 23, 2016 | By Business Wire News

ST. PAUL, Minn.

Mosquitoes pose a significant threat to public health due to their ability to transmit serious diseases, including the Zika virus. This year alone, the World Health Organization is estimating three to four million cases of Zika worldwide.

“Our customers know that mosquitoes are far more than just a nuisance,” said Dr. John Hanlin, Ecolab vice president of Food Safety and Public Health. “Ecolab helps hotels, resorts, restaurants and other facilities protect their guests and employees with solutions that reduce mosquitoes around their properties.”

Ecolab Pest Elimination’s science-based Mosquito Program can help reduce the risk of mosquito bites through a rigorous three-step program:

  • The first step is Inspect: detailed on-site inspections identify the breeding and adult resting sites.
  • Second is Prevent: recommendations to limit potential breeding sites, and for those that cannot be eliminated, treatments to prevent larvae from developing into adults.
  • Last is Protect: treatments for potential adult resting sites to help provide long-lasting protection against mosquitoes.

Across field tests, the enhanced Ecolab Mosquito Program helped reduce mosquito presence by up to 89 percent.

“Traditional methods of control, such as fogging, have no long-term effects on the mosquito population,” said David Lilly, Ecolab Pest Elimination principal entomologist. “The Ecolab program helps customers get ahead of this health issue by reducing the risk from resting sites, such as gardens, and eliminating mosquito breeding sources.”
