PORTSMOUTH, N.H., Feb. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Dr. Cool relief and recovery products, featuring award winning, patented Coolcore fabrics, announced today that its ambassador, Becca Pizzi, became the first American Female to finish the World Marathon Challenge. Pizzi, of Belmont, Massachusetts, was among 15 runners across the globe that ran seven marathons in seven days on seven different continents. Pizzi set event records on all 7 continents, finishing the race with an average time of 3:55:11. Additionally, Pizzi beat the current female record holder by nearly 13 hours, with a cumulative time of 27:26:15.
“It is an incredible honor to be the first American female to complete the World Marathon Challenge,” Pizzi exclaimed. “I run to inspire, so this race was a chance for me to show the world that anything is possible.”
During this seven-day time period, competitors ran standard 42.2km (26.2 miles) marathon distances at Union Glacier (Antarctica), Punta Arenas (Chile), Miami (USA), Madrid (Spain), Marrakech (Morocco), Dubai (United Arab Emirates) and Sydney (Australia). In doing so, Pizzi completed seven marathons on the planet’s seven continents: Antarctica, South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. Pizzi overcame marathon fatigue, jet lag and sleep deprivation as the event progressed. The impact of wide temperature fluctuations was also a huge factor with variation of 80 Degrees Fahrenheit.
“With the extreme variations in climates for the different marathons, Dr. Cool temperature regulation clothing was incredibly helpful in keeping me cool and comfortable, so I could focus on my running,” stated Pizzi. “And, Dr. Cool ice wraps were an integral part of my post run recovery routine, which was of utmost importance with a new marathon each day.”
Coolcore cooling fabrics, used in all Dr. Cool apparel, accessories and ice compression wraps, are the only fabric globally to win an award for “Cooling Power” from the world-renownd Hohenstein Institute. Additionally, Coolcore recently won the award for “Best Innovation – Sports and Outdoor Apparel” from the ITMA Future Materials Awards, which are organized by the World Textile Information Network (WTIN).
