Belden’s 10GXS Wins Innovators Award

By Business Wire News

Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, is proud to announce that its new 10GXS Cable has received a Silver Level Innovators Award from Cabling Installation & Maintenance.

The 2015 Innovators Awards celebrate the most innovative applications of cabling and communications technology products and systems. Awards are presented to organizations that demonstrate excellence in the use of cabling based on innovation, value to the user, sustainability, meeting defined needs and other established criteria.

Belden’s 10GXS Cables combine a smaller diameter with the best mechanical and electrical characteristics possible in a Category 6A cable. With an effective diameter of just 0.265 inches (6.73 mm) and proven performance that exceeds Category 6A requirements for 100-meter channels, 10GXS Cables are ideal for LANs and enterprise data centers requiring high-density, high-bandwidth connections for network applications like 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

Cabling Installation & Maintenance recognized Belden’s 10GXS Cables for their design simplicity, ease of installation, and performance without compromise. Belden developed two new technologies, EquiSpline and EquiBlock, to offer better noise immunity and performance that exceeds Category 6A specifications with 10GXS Cables. This new cabling system offers quality, reliable performance for current applications while also allowing for future application growth and expansion.

  • EquiSpline controls the balance of the cable by providing a compartment for each pair. These compartments ensure consistent cable geometry, which enables higher performance in terms of noise rejection and insertion loss.
  • EquiBlock is a barrier tape that blocks noise coupling by effectively surrounding the cable core with a Faraday cage without a need for grounding. It also improves heat transfer and dissipation while eliminating hotspots when delivering remote power, and suppresses antenna effects caused by ANEXT and EMI.

Jim McGlynn, PE, RCDD/NTS, director of engineering at Engineering PLUS, explains his end-users’ benefits this way: “One of the key cost-benefit analysis (CBA) evaluations we make for our clients when deciding between Category 6E and Category 6A 10-gig cabling is the added costs of pathways and related labor and materials…The 10GXS cable at 0.265” (plenum) and 0.275” (PVC) now makes 10-gig copper cabling solutions feasible in this market.”

Only Belden’s innovative enterprise connectivity solutions take a universal approach to customers’ enterprises, resolving signal transmission needs with IP- and legacy-based solutions that enable a smooth migration to convergence. Belden’s extensive portfolio spans LAN, data centers, building automation and security and access control to keep information running smoothly.
