Axalta Coating Systems Awards Student Winners at State of Mexico’s Science and Engineering Fair

Axalta Coating Systems, a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, presented the Axalta Special Science Award during the Mexican Fair of Science and Engineering 2015, organized by the Mexican Council of Science and Technology (COMECyT). Berenice Perez and Tupak Hernandez, students from the Technological University of Nezahualcoyotl,received this year’s Axalta award in the field of natural and environmental sciences for their project: Polluted Soils Treatment with Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons by Biopiles Method.

Students Tupak Hernandez and Berenice Perez receive the Axalta Special Science Award during the Mexican Fair of Science and Engineering 2015. (Photo: Axalta)

The fair promotes scientific and technology projects created by middle, high school, and university students in the State of Mexico. Projects submitted for the award were evaluated based on innovation, creativity, social impact, applicability, and teamwork by a group of experts in research, development, human resources, law, corporate affairs and operations. The winners of the Axalta Special Science Award received a 15-day internship at one of Axalta’s research facilities in Mexico during which they will learn about processes involved in the creation of Axalta coatings.

“The ability to develop sustainable and innovative solutions is a key asset for economic growth. We are very proud of our continued collaboration with the government of the State of Mexico, the education system, and COMECyT to improve research in our country,” stated Zerene Kahan, Director of Corporate Affairs for Axalta Latin America.
